If you’re looking to get sandy this summer, Calgary offers a great beach volleyball scene. Check out the courts in the heart of downtown, family-friendly leagues, or easy drop-ins at community parks. Grab your crew, bring a volleyball, sunscreen, water, and enjoy the summer vibes on the sand!
Here’s a list of the most popular spots:
Calgary Beach Volleyball Association Courts
Valleyview Park – 3224 26 St. S.E
The largest venue is located in Valleyview Park, 10.5 hectares overlooking downtown Calgary. It is a relatively new park in Calgary’s southeast, separating the Dover and Southview communities. It features ball diamonds, playgrounds, an artificial pond, benches, picnic tables, and pathways. It also offers a seasonal spray park, a water fountain and washrooms.

The site is home to the Calgary Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA). Their volunteers, volleyball enthusiasts and fans have built 19 outdoor sand courts.
The non-profit organization has been serving the Calgary volleyball community since 1990. Each season, the CBVA has over 800 participants in their leagues and tournaments.

The CBVA provides a great environment for friendly competition. It offers an opportunity to meet new people and introduce participants to the sport. Everyone is welcome, with leagues that range from recreational to advanced levels.
Community Associations
South Calgary Park (Marda Loop) – 3130 16 St. S.W.
We consider this smaller venue, with 8 sand courts, the best in the city for overall experience. This community hub is located in trendy Marda Loop and opened around 2001/02. The community hall and CSPACE at the former King Edward School host markets, festivals and other events throughout the summer. Learn more about the historic sandstone Old School here.

There is an outdoor shower and lights that create a unique atmosphere for extended playtime. South Calgary Park features mature trees, gardens, picnic tables, benches, and pathways. A bike pump track was opened in 2024. Plus tennis/pickleball courts, soccer fields and public art installations situated next to the library. There are also fantastic restaurants and cafes nearby.

In 2018, $80000 was spent to refurbish the courts and equipment. This spring, the courts received a fresh top-up as they strive to keep at least 10 inches of sand. That’s roughly 24000 cubic feet of beach to enjoy under your toes.
The City of Calgary, Marda Loop Community Association, and Calgary Sport & Social Club (CSSC) have collaborated on this project. Courts are available during weekdays and all day Saturday on a first-come, first-served basis. The CSSC rents the courts on weekday evenings starting at 4 p.m. and all day Sunday.
Scenic Acres Community Association (SACA) – 8825 Scurfield Dr. N.W.
The 2 courts in Scenic Acres are among the best in Calgary. Great sand, new adjustable poles and nets. They’re also one of the few courts that can be booked.
Booking ensures that you have the courts for the times you want. Fees for low-demand times are $20/hr/court during weekdays (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and until 9 p.m. on Fridays, weekends, and holidays. High-demand times Monday through Thursday (5 p.m. – 9 p.m.) are at a higher rate.

You can play without a booking, but you have to yield to those who have reserved the court. The courts are closed from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. The SACA operates volleyball camps during the day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., during July and August.
Tuxedo Park – 202 29 Ave N.E.
The City of Calgary opened 4 public courts in the spring of 2025. They are non-bookable and for general public use.
The initiative to replace an underutilized baseball field in the northeast corner of the park began in 2021. A community engagement survey indicated an interest in having a beach volleyball court. This was followed in 2022 with beach volleyball user groups providing letters of support for the courts.

After discussions with the Ward 7 Office and the Tuxedo Park Community Association, the concept moved ahead. The City facilitated the plan to grade and level the site in 2024. Fencing was put up for the winter as they went out to market to design and develop the courts. They opened in the spring of 2025.
The entire park has undergone a massive transformation as part of a stormwater improvement program. The size of pipes was increased, and a dry pond was created to reduce flooding during extreme weather events. A new playground has been installed. The City of Calgary
The City of Calgary website lists 2 locations for beach volleyball.
Cowboys Park / Shaw Millennium Park – 1220 9 Ave S.W.
Cowboys Park, formerly known as Millennium Park, is home to 3 beach volleyball courts. The site is home to the landmark Mewata Armoury. The recognized federal heritage building was constructed between 1917/18. The park was established in 2000 and is the largest skate park in North America. There are 75,000 square feet of skateable surfaces that are open 24/7.

The surrounding park hours are 5 a.m. – 11 p.m. and feature three climbing boulders, known as The Three Little Brothers. These new climbing boulders are an aesthetic piece of landscape architecture. They allow both new and experienced climbers the opportunity to boulder outdoors on natural rock. The site also has outdoor basketball courts. The lack of glass backboards excludes them from our list of the Best Outdoor Basketball Courts in Calgary.
The park is designated as an activity park and special venue event space. In early March, work began to transform Cowboys Park into a modern, multi-functional event space in Calgary’s downtown. Improvements will be paid for through the City’s ten-year sponsorship agreement. Starting in 2025, the space is home to one of the city’s most popular events, the Cowboys Music Festival.
Signal Hill, 6305 Sierra Morena Blvd. S.W.

This small, single public court is hidden off Morena Blvd. There is a bus stop on the street, or follow the pathway in Battalion Park.
